2097 WESTON RD
Located on Weston Road just north of Lawrence Ave W is this little diner type joint called BBQ City. A little north of downtown, and a trek if you take transit, but well worth it.
All the standard diner grub is available here. BBQ chicken, Fried chicken, Chicken sandwiches, Chicken souvlaki, Ribs, BBQ pork, Chicken wings, Burgers, Steak and fish on a bun, Caesar and Greek salad, etc. They also ground all their beef on site, and it shows.
The burger here consists of a 5oz patty, and is char-broiled. All standard toppings are available. Tomato, lettuce, onions, pickles, etc.
The feel of the restaurant is very old school diner like. The owner has been in business for 20yrs (previously at a different location), and he insists nothing has changed in the way he prepares the food. The staff are friendly, talkative, and answered all my questions with a smile. There is comfortable, ample seating, so you can go with a large group.
I ordered a burger combo, which consists of a burger, fries, and a fountain soda. The total came to $8.20, which is extremely reasonable for what you get. For a 5oz burger, it was massive. They also give a good dose of fries as well.
I went there for lunch, around 12:30pm, and I was the only one there. I`m not sure if it gets much busier for dinner, as the location of the restaurant may play a factor.
Conclusion: All I can say is, this burger was delicious!!!! It was thick, juicy, good size, and the toppings tasted very fresh. The meat was cooked perfectly, and had a very meaty and non greasy texture. Even the fries were delicious. Taking into account the quality, price, and portion of my meal, BBQ City ranks very high on my list! One downfall: location. However, they`re obviously doing something right considering they`ve been in business for 20yrs. I would love to see them either relocate, or open another BBQ City in the downtown core. They would make a killing there.
If you`re ever up near the Weston Rd and Lawrence area, check this place out, and go hungry!!!
