269 Augusta Avenue
It’s been a little while, but the Burgerdogg is back! My first review of 2015 is a joint called “The Burgernator” which is located right in the heart of Kensington Market, on Augusta Ave. The restaurant claims, “The burger is our weapon!” Pretty strong statement if you ask me. I had to see if they live up to the hype.
Now, Kensington Market is filled with unique, independent restaurants, and The Burgernator is just one of them. It has ample seating, and I was particularly fond of the atmosphere. The menu is printed right on the wall, along with their “mission statement.” They have many different selections of burgers including, The Atomic Burger, which comes with an all beef patty, deep fried herb crusted cheese, tomato, lettuce, and a sun dried tomato aioli. A bonus about The Burgernator is that all their meat is halal and their buns are gluten free. If you’re into that kind of thing. The meat is fresh and apparently ground in house. They insist all their produce is sourced locally.
Once again, for the criteria of this blog, I went with their most basic burger, “The Sergeant Burger.” It comes with a 4oz patty, “Burgernator sauce,” Lettuce, tomato and pickle. The burger, with fries and a can of Dr. Pepper came to $9.90. Right up there with the competition, and in some cases, even better. If you choose a burger from their “Burgers of mass destruction” menu, you’ll be paying anywhere from $12-$20 for your meal.
Conclusion: One bite into this burger and I was in Carnivore heaven!!! The meat was the perfect blend of tender, juicy, and meaty, and did not have any kind of a “greasy” texture to it. In fact, it tasted very fresh. The quality of this burger is on par with The Burger’s Priest and Holy Chuck’s, but at a far better value. Of course, trying one of their specialty burgers will be more pricey, but still a decent value in my opinion. All in all, this burger was so good, I wish I was eating it right now!!! At the end of my meal, I was satisfied, yet not over stuffed.
Then there’s the location. Right in the heart of the Market, very close to downtown and easily accessible by TTC. I had a very enjoyable dining experience at The Burgernator, and I can’t wait to go back. Check them out and let me know what you think!
