Dangerous Dan’s Diner
714 Queen St. East
Dangerous Dan’s, or as the locals call it, “The Double D” is an iconic Diner located in Toronto’s East end, right on the corner of Queen St East and Broadview Ave. The neighborhood is a little sketchy but this place is worth checking out. Just steps away is The Opera House concert venue. Many concert goers stop by The Double D on their way to a show. It’s a small diner style joint, and the seating is made up of old minivan bench seats. Not the most comfortable, but I feel it adds to the ambience. We got there at about 7pm and it was packed. We had to wait about ten minutes for a table to become available. This is a very popular Diner, especially when there is a concert happening in the neighborhood.
Now, this is not for the faint at heart. Dangerous Dan’s is known for it’s eccentric creations, such as “The Colon Clogger.” Comprised of a 24oz burger, served with a quarter pound of cheese, a quarter pound of bacon, and two fried eggs. Are you brave enough to attempt to eat that? I’m not. I kept it simple and had the cheddar burger. The burger with a Snapple came to $9.05 total. I feel this price is not too bad, Most burgers are made with 8oz patties, unless otherwise noted. My friend got “The Big Kevorkian,” which has fried onion, fried mushrooms, two slices of fried bacon, deep fried pickle, garlic dressing and mayo. Just typing that made me feel like I had a minor heart attack. I included a picture of it. Standard toppings are available. I had mine with everything. Vegetarian and gluten free options are also available. After waiting several minutes at our table, they bring you your burger on a plate, and the presentation is very nice. Bonus points there.
Conclusion: Seriously, just look at that thing!! This burger tasted very fresh. Even the toppings were some of the freshest toppings I’ve ever had on a burger!! The tomatoes were thick and juicy, the lettuce was green and leafy, even the bun was soft and tasted as if it was baked on site. The meat was tender, juicy, greasy, and melted in your mouth. The texture was just perfect. The size of the burger is very generous. This burger is going to be very difficult to top. I’m looking forward to the next time I’m in the area so I can try one of their specialty creations! Do yourself a favor and go here. RIGHT NOW! Just drop whatever it is you’re doing and go grab a burger! I’ll even join you!! Check out their website at http://www.dangerousdansdiner.com for the full menu.
I dinged points for location and comfort/size of the restaurant. Hey, I’m a critic. That’s what I do.
